Ollinfit / Wearable Personal Trainer
Ollinfit is a fitness coaching platform consisting of three wearable sensors and a smartphone app to give fitness enthusiasts an alternative to personal trainers. The wearable sensors combined with proprietary algorithms track & measure user position, movement, vibration and speed. The input enables the system to coach users on the accuracy & quality of their workout via the mobile application.
The idea for a platform like this came out of the waterloo mechatronic engineering program, where the founders met. As a self-funded startup, the project goal was to prepare for a pre-sale stage campaign to raise funding via online crowdsourcing platforms.
The original design they approached us with was based on a dedicated wearable collar as well as several arm and leg peripheral devices. We quickly realized that this approach would increase the complexity and cost of the project by designing and manufacturing several distinct devices.
Our proposed redesign was based on creating a single wearable device that the user can place anywhere on their body by using different silicone rubber sleeves. This approach simplified the hardware development, and resulted in a more robust family of products to sell.
During the course of the project we were also asked to create a companion mobile app to compliment the wearable devices. As a crucial addition to the platform, the app would help users track & understand the accuracy of their movements, propose workout routines and suggest suitable resistance weights.
With the design phase complete, the Ollinfit team is currently pursuing the next stages of their campaign.
